Counselling for Businesses & EAPs
Whether you are responsible for 20 or 2000 people at work, at some time or other you will become aware of someone who seems to be under stress and isn’t performing too well. Stress is a major cause of days and income lost to industry. Combating stress is about helping people cope better.
Your organisation’s greatest asset is the people it employs. Personal counselling offered by your organisation can be a powerful resource in reducing stress among employees. It gives them a helping hand just when it is needed. In most parts of the country, there are long waiting lists for counselling through the NHS or from specialist counselling agencies, such as for bereavement and rape. I have extensive experience in supporting employees’ within organisations with a wide range of issues, which may often be complex or traumatic, such as suicide, attacks on employees, and sudden death (both within the UK and overseas).
I have over 20 years of corporate experience, both as a workplace counsellor and trainer working within Devon and Cornwall for a national organisation, and also for an Employee Assistance Programme on a national basis.
I have a Graduate Diploma in Organisational Counselling from Roehampton University, and can offer short or longer-term face to face counselling or coaching from my consulting rooms in Newquay, and telephone counselling anywhere in the UK – or indeed the world – with appropriate telephone access (this can be very useful if employees are abroad for work or holiday at the time a crisis occurs).
Telephone counselling is now regarded as effective as face-to-face counselling and I have considerable experience and expertise in delivering psychological interventions via this medium. It is often more convenient and timely, and works particularly well for busy people and also those who may feel too embarrassed to go and see a counsellor.
I am also experienced at setting up and running group sessions, workshops and training events for all kinds of employees (blue and white collar) and all levels of employees (from shop floor up to senior manager and director level), and am available for such work in the Devon and Cornwall area. Examples of workshops I have run for employees include Stress Awareness, Coping with Change, Preparing for Retirement, Redundancy Seminars, Dealing with Anger, Conflict and Aggression in the workplace
CONFIDENTIALITY & REPORTS
Whilst I would never disclose the content of counselling sessions, I am willing to provide a report to an employer, provided I have the consent of my client. My reports would usually contain a brief description of relevant social and psychological issues, an indication of the existence and severity of symptoms of anxiety and depression using recognised psychological assessment, progress being made, current capacity for work, expected timescale for return to work if employee is off sick, recommendations for a return to work plan and an indication as to whether the employee is likely to be covered by UK disability / equality legislation.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy workplace division.
